01 / OVERVIEW

Self-Sustaining Community

A holistic residential community integrating housing, agriculture, renewable energy, water management and community infrastructure.

02CONCEPT & DESIGN STORY

A community rooted in people, place and nature.

The design is inspired by traditional Tamil village typologies re-engineered for a carbon-negative future: Built ecosystems center around a central water body, fostering community life, learning, farming, and shared recreation.

01

Site & Context

Topographical mapping of natural drainage channels across the 18-acre site.

02

Zoning Strategy

Perimeter residential modules buffering an organic agro-forestry core.

03

Green Network

Continuous pedestrian bioswale corridors linking every doorstep to the central lake.

04

Built Form

Stepped low-rise volumes with deep shading eaves maximizing passive cross-ventilation.

05

Community Hub

Civic center, school, and workshop spaces anchoring public life.

03SITE + CONTEXT

Topographical & Climate Analysis

Located in the southern growth corridor of Chennai, the site features a natural catchment depression which was preserved and amplified as the masterplan's bio-sponge heart.

Stepped Terraces & Microclimate Thermodynamics

Sectional studies illustrate how hot air is drawn up through central courtyard atriums while cool humidified air from the lake sweeps through ground-floor living quarters.
